Geography from Square One - Geography in the Primary School
'Inspection evidence reveals that geography is the worst taught subject in the curriculum, with the rate of improvement lower than that of all other subjects. There is a marked polarisation with a few schools teaching the subject exceptionally well and the majority either not teaching it much, or teaching it without real conviction or direction.’
David Bell, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Schools
But it doesn’t have to be like that! Excellent, enjoyable geography teaching is within reach of every primary teacher, and Geography from Square One shows how.
Geography from Square One was launched at the GA’s Annual Conference, Spring 2005. Early in the summer term, all primary schools will receive a colourful A1 poster. This carries an introductory activity for teachers and seven simple and enjoyable activities. View the Activities Page.
Geography from Square One is a Geographical Association project, supported by funding from The Frederick Soddy Trust and the DfES
