National Curriculum

Description:

This unit, for years 1 to 6, provides an overview of opportunities for the development of children’s ICT capabilities in the context of the primary geography curriculum. Suggested activities make use of generic software, such as painting programs and spreadsheets, as well as some subject-specific tools that are widely available in schools. Opportunities provided by hardware, such as handheld computers, digital cameras and camcorders, are explored within familiar geography contexts and support is provided for integration of ICT into the enquiry process. ICT opportunities are presented within key stage 1 and 2 units and also through an ongoing programme of activities from which teachers can select ideas appropriate to children’s abilities, interests and levels of skill.
