This unit uses story to examine the sustainability of a community in the opportunities it offers to children. It helps Year 1 children explore the local area in terms of a particular issue - the problem of road safety and the vulnerability of children to traffic. Small children often find it difficult to cope with the complexities of traffic and its management: this unit takes a wider look at the resources on offer to children in the community, the problems they might have in accessing them, and some of the people who might help them along the way.
