Introduction

The Development Education Association (DEA) has provided this list of links and resources developed by its members in relation to the current crisis in the Middle East.

The DEA was formed in 1993 to support and promote the work of all those engaged in raising awareness and understanding of global and development issues in the UK. It is a national umbrella body working with more than 240 member and partner organisations in the UK and overseas, including the GA.

Global Dimension

A project using local and global issues to build understanding of different faiths and backgrounds between young people.

Israel and Palestine: The Promised Land?
Global Express, Edition 26, May 2001
The conflict between Israel and Palestine stems from a struggle for land that began over 100 years ago. Global Express explores the history of the region and the media portrayal of the conflict.

Making Sense of World Conflicts
As you read this there are at least thirty armed conflicts in the world. In today’s wars, most of the people killed are civilians, and almost half of those casualties are children. This resource explores the connections between conflict and poverty, and the changing nature of conflict.

Teaching controversial Issues
Oxfam’s latest Global Citizenship Guide is a free publication full of strategies and activities to help teachers tackle controversial issues in the classroom. You can download a PDF from their website or request a hard copy by contacting Oxfam on 0870 333 2700 or at education@oxfam.org.uk.
