In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, many websites are offering up to date news articles, photographs and resources, so we have gathered together a selection of the best to help you in your trawl of the internet. BBC News
The BBC has an in-depth section on the Hurricane including news articles, photographs, background and analysis, comment and animated guides.

New York Times
This excellent resource from the New York Times includes an interactive satellite photograph of New Orleans taken on Wednesday 31st August; day by day statistics including satellite images of the storm, wind speed and rainfall figures; a selection of aerial photographs of New Orleans and the Mississippi coast; a diagram of the New Orleans levee system; a map of evacuation routes; and oil industry statistics.

WWLTV
The news service for New Orleans and Louisiana features minute by minute news updates, aerial photographs and images submitted by members of the public.

MSNBC
MSNBC includes up to date news and interactive presentations including an excellent 'before and after' aerial photograph of New Orleans.

NOLA.com
NOLA.com - Everything New Orleans – has extensive galleries of Hurricane Katrina photographs gathered from AP, the US Coast Guard and members of the public.

NASA
NASA has set up a Hurricane Katrina resource page featuring several resources which should be useful in the geography classroom including hurricane videos, satellite images, photographs and links.

Red Cross
The American Red Cross website includes information about the hurricane plus how you can help by donating or volunteering.

Tolerance.org
Human geographers should take a look at this website which examines the social side of the disaster, including issues of race, poverty and disability.

Scientific American
In 2001 Scientific American published a feature article entitled Drowning New Orleans. The opening paragraph reads: 'Major hurricane could swamp New Orleans under 20 feet of water, killing thousands. Human activities along the Mississippi River have dramatically increased the risk, and now only massive reengineering of southeastern Louisiana can save the city.'

Google Earth
Teachers with a copy of Google Earth will be pleased to know that a number of overlays have already been produced including images of New Orleans, Biloxi and the wider Mississippi coast.

Geography teacher Val Vannet has recently added her PowerPoint presentation ‘Hard Times for the Big Easy’ to the GeoInteractive 'contributions' section.

Geography teacher Tony Cassidy has produced some resources for Key Stage 3 including PowerPoints, activity sheets, a ‘living graph’ and a mapping exercise.

National Geodetic Survey
High resolution satellite imagery of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama after Hurricane Katrina made landfall. Organised into clickable squares which allow you to zoom in on specific patches of land.
