Past Themes - CPD For All!
David Lambert highlights the range of support for professional development provided by the GA.
|
Virtually everything we do is CPD - after all, our mission is to ‘further the learning and teaching of geography ’, and we achieve this through our members.
We provide a range of CPD opportunities, both face-to-face and at a distance: The backbone of the GA is our amazing volunteer energy of committees and working groups. This also has professional development payback - GA activists are often at the forefront of curriculum and pedagogic development.
|
If you want more formal CPD, we are delighted to introduce a range of accredited Professional Development Units (PDUs) – an idea successfully trialled at the 2004 Annual Conference. Have a look at the 2004-05 programme. The PDUs are run in partnership with leaders in a specialist field (e.g. ESRI, Ordnance Survey) to offer you the best CPD experience, and are supported by superb materials.
|
|
The GA’s PDUs can be linked with the ULIE/Edexcel Professional Diploma in Learning and Teaching. Course materials, access to the Institute’s library and individual student support from the GA are all available online.
Information on distance learning, online and face-to-face CPD opportunities from other providers has been compiled by Clare Brooks - see the topical links at the foot of this page.
This renewed emphasis on CPD is part and parcel of the GA ’s strategic development and sits very comfortably with GA project developments. These are very welcome developments!
E-mail me at dlambert@geography.org.uk - I am always interested in the views of colleagues.
Next month’s theme celebrates the start of the Decade for Education for Sustainable Development. All the best for the festive season from the GA. |
