GIS Links

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) allow you to attach data to maps. GIS makes connections between locations and information – so it helps users solve problems and make decisions. GIS are increasingly used in government, business and research for anything from delivering a pizza to preventing floods. GIS will be a vital skill for the 21st century.

In geography using GIS means pupils can research information – for example through fieldwork – and then use maps to identify patterns and make decisions about what they have found out.

Most GIS applications for schools allow you to view maps at different scales, integrated with aerial photography and satellite images.
