ICT across the curriculum: ICT in Geography
This document from The National Strategies gives background guidance on the different ways in which ICT can be integrated into geography teaching, set against the wider use of ICT in a school. There is no specific reference to GIS, though it would form part of work in these categories: Using data and information sources, Searching and Selection, Organising and Investigating, and Refining and Presenting Information. The ICTAC strategy omits to mention that GIS can also play a part in Modelling, such as in planning for the Olympic Games.
This TV program can provide ideas about the rationale for introducing GIS, together with ideas for how to plan for its use in the classroom.
This part of our website gives a set of reports from teachers who have introduced GIS as part of their teaching. The reports focus on how the work was planned, including ideas about the issues that need to be addressed. The reports are typical of the experiences of many schools, many of whom have been beginners in GIS work.
