Unit A: Alexandra goes to Athens (9-13)

By Judy Mraz

Stadium

The 2004 Olympic Games in Athens provides students with the opportunity to study a country with a very different geography to their own and one which is steeped in history. This unit of work allows students to 'travel' to Greece with Alexandra and experience the Olympic Games from her perspective. They will learn about Greece - its location, weather and tourist sites - and some history related to the Olympic Games. They will also be given the opportunity to become familiar with the competition venues and events of the upcoming games and plan their itinerary to view a number of events while they 'visit' Athens.
