Pilot GCSE - Teachers' Resource Guide

The Teachers’ resource guide for the Pilot GCSE is entitled ‘A Geography Specification to support the 21st Century Citizen’. It was written and collated for the QCA by the GA’s GeoVisions GCSE Working Party.

Aims and contents

The Teachers’ resource guide (which can be downloaded below) was produced to support pilot centres with their initial planning. It provides an insight into the discussions that underpin the specifications in relation to the five concepts and three themes. The guide comprises four sections:
  1. An introduction to the geographical thinking behind ‘Geography 21’
  2. Exploring the three themes (My place – living in the UK today, An extreme environment – exploring landscape and process, and People as Consumers – the impact of our decisions)
  3. Planning ideas related to the three themes
  4. Teaching and learning ideas
The assessment, coursework and fieldwork aspects of the specification will be explored at a later date.
