Pilot GCSE: Rivendell Working Group

Rivendell Working Group - 2004

One aspiration of the developers of the Pilot GCSE was that the specification should re-ignite teacher creativity.

The Pilot was intended to offer opportunities for curriculum development for post-14 candidates. The Rivendell Working Group took up this challenge.

For the last two years Graham Senior has organised an informal gathering of centres involved in the Pilot to engage in collaborative curriculum development. The group became known as the Rivendell Working Group - after the centre in Yorkshire where it met. At the first meeting, Graham, Louise Moir (Deacons School), Jane Girlow (Hugh Christie Technology College), Amber Strathdee, Phil Wood (Deepings School) and Rhys Guthrie, developed outline plans for the core themes. These can be downloaded as follows:

During the second meeting (see photo) Graham, Phil, Jane and Louise were joined by Martin Crabb (Glebe School), Nic Crouch (De La Salle School), Lesley Warner (Todmorden High) and Pam Field (Palantine School). This expanded group considered creative ways of planning for the options. Eleanor Rawling (QCA) (and her dog), Diane Swift, (GA) and Judith Mansell (RGS-IBG) also worked with the Group.
