Perton First School
Perton First School is situated in the large, modern village of Perton in South Staffordshire. This new village is just over 35 years old with a population of approximately 11,500 (1996). It is located on the edge of Wolverhampton, Shropshire and Staffordshire border in the North West Midlands.
The local environment includes a large field and playground, a pond and several garden areas. Beyond the school grounds there are two lakes, Bluebell Wood, a playground, a small shopping centre, farmland and surrounding fields.
Most pupils live locally but a few travel from further afield. The socio-economic make up of the area is varied. The school is located in a semi-rural area of mainly owner-occupied housing. Most pupils are white and there is a small minority of pupils who are from a range of ethnic backgrounds including Asian British, Black British and mixed race. All of these pupils speak English fluently. The percentage of pupils with special educational needs, including statements, is just below average. A small number of pupils are known to be entitled to free school meals.
