Revised Standards for QTS and Requirements for ITT

New Standards for QTS

A revised set of professional standards for teachers was published on 22 June 2007 by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).

The revised standards for QTS are the first part of a framework of standards for various stages of a teacher's career. The new framework, which will replace all existing classroom standards from September 2007 includes standards for:

  • QTS
  • Core standards for teachers
  • Post threshold teachers
  • Excellent teachers
  • Advanced Skills teachers

    The revised standards are seen by the government as a key element of the 'new professionalism' for teachers.

    The TDA has published a 63 page handbook, Guidance to accompany the Standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), to help tutors and mentors interpret and use the new standards. The handbook can be downloaded here:

  • ITT Requirements

    The revised requirements for ITT were published by the TDA in June 2007:
