Ofsted Inspections of Initial Teacher Training
|
All providers of initial teacher training leading to QTS are inspected against the requirements and standards in Qualifying to teach: professional standards for Qualified Teacher Status and Requirements for ITT published by the TDA. From September 2007 courses will be inspected against the new standards for QTS and the new requirements – see the ITT Standards and Requirements page for further information.

All primary and all secondary courses will be inspected once between 2005 and 2008. Where provision, according to the previous inspection, has been categorised as A or B, there will be a short inspection. Courses categorised as C in the previous inspection will have a full inspection.
New providers receive a full inspection in their second year following accreditation.
Although the emphasis of the new inspection framework is on Management and Quality Assurance of the course as a whole, those involved in geography teacher education need to be aware of the ways in which the geography education component of courses is inspected through interviews with course co-ordinators, mentors and students, through course documentation and students' files and assignments.
