Elizabeth - Y10: Location of industry. How has the changing basis of manufacturing affected different communities? What new uses for old industrial sites would help make better communities?
Heather - KS3: How does a comparison of Hull and Cottingham conform to pupils' perceptions of their own settlement hierarchy? In what sense does an iconic feature, such as the Deep, contribute to a sustainbale community?
Carolyn - Y10: How and why a major development proposal, such as St Stephens, supports the idea of a sustainable community.
'Re-imagining Settlement'
'... At times I felt the issues developing in class discussions were too complicated to contain within the confines of the space and time of the classroom ...'
Heather reflects upon the changes made to a Key Stage 3 scheme of work and how she will develop it further.
'Here and there'
Liz reports on involving Year 10 in two interventions: a pupil research project about their local community and using photographic evidence for studying industrial location.
Local Context: Hull
This project was run in partnership with the Academy for Sustainable Communities which has since become the Skills and Knowledge team at the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and in association with the local architecture centres which are members of the Architecture Centre Network.
