Furthering the learning and teaching of geography

A Department Website - King Edward VI School, Morpeth

This report describes the department's use of its intranet to raise achievement and uptake within geography.

After carrying out an online questionnaire consultation of Year 10 geographers, three structures were put in place. An assessment for learning tool called 'Steps of Success' and a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) were used as part of a whole school development. The department also put in place the RATE system, a way of organising the department's digital resources.

Following a one-year trial, students and teachers were consulted about the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. It is hoped these consultations will inform the evolution of the structures and may provide some useful pointers to other geography departments who are starting to think about how they use ICT to support their teaching and learning.
