My Coastal Life Photography Competition

Students of all ages are invited to enter this competition organised by Atlantic Rising. Send a photo of your favourite coastal scene along with 50 words about why it is special to you to competition@atlanticrising.org and you could win over £1000 in prizes. Geography Awareness Week 21-25 June 2010

Earn £500 this summer with an RMets Teacher Internship

The Royal Meteorological Society is seeking two Teacher Fellows to work with them this summer to develop teaching resources in weather and climate. Applications must be submitted by the end of April 2010. Further information is available on the MetLink website. (10.03.10)


£1000 for Green Schools

Teachers TV is looking for environmentally friendly schools for their new competition. If your school has an innovative recycling project, a vegetable patch, a wind turbine, or anything else that fits the bill, you could win up to £1000 to spend on green initiatives. Funded Expeditions for 16 & 17 Year Olds

Photographic Competition for Schools

The Love Where You Live photo competition for schools encourages Key Stage 2, 3 and 4 students to take notice of their local surroundings so they learn to enjoy, and look after them, at a young age. Competition now closed. (12.10.09)


£500 school grants up for grabs

Who Do We Think We Are? (WDWTWA) is an annual programme of advice and curriculum support that helps students explore issues of identity, diversity and citizenship. Funding is currently available for schools to develop activities related to the national WDWTWA week taking place 21-27 June 2010. (21.01.10)


Becta ICT Excellence Awards

The 2010 ICT Excellence Awards are now closed. Now in their fifth year, the awards aim to identify and reward whole school excellence in ICT and recognise those organisations who support school improvement with ICT. (12.02.10)

Ofsted Annual Report 2008/09

A picture of overall improvement in care, education and skills in England is revealed in Ofsted's Annual Report, launched today by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector, Christine Gilbert. Bringing together powerful evidence from almost 40,000 inspections carried out during 2008/9, the report acknowledges overall progress and many successes, but also focuses on where improvements must still be made. Sustainable Cities Index

Newcastle has been crowned the UK's most sustainable city in a report published today by Forum for the Future. The index measures environmental impact, quality of life and future-proofing in the UK's 20 largest cities. (19.11.09)


Three Awards for GA at SAGT Annual Conference

We were proud to pick up three 'Commended' awards at this year's Scottish Association of Geography Teachers Annual Conference. The awards were given for A different view, GIS for A-level geography and Fieldwork File: for the secondary years and were collected by GA President John Halocha. (02.11.09)


Cambridge Review Final Report Published

The final report of the Cambridge Primary Review has now been published. It joins the final report of the Independent Review of the Primary Curriculum, led by Sir Jim Rose, which was released earlier in the year. CABE Competition and Funding Opportunities

To celebrate its 10th birthday, CABE is inviting all teachers to submit a lesson idea that uses a building or place. The best entry will win a framed signed architectural drawing for their school. Iain Stewart becomes Honorary Vice President of the GA

We are pleased to announce that Professor Iain Stewart has accepted the role of Honorary Vice President of the GA and has also become a primary Geography Champion. Iain is well known for his BBC television programmes such as Journey from the Centre of the Earth and Earth - The Biography. (25.08.09)


John Halocha becomes GA President for 2009-10

We warmly welcome John Halocha to the position of GA president for the year 2009-10. With 17 years experience in the classroom, two deputy headships, and a subsequent career in initial teacher education, John is keen to do everything he can to promote geography education and represent the needs of GA members. GeoUniverse is an emerging site created by two passionate and dedicated sixth form geographers. The site contains numerous articles, book reviews, photos, and a helpful GCSE revision service. There is now an interview section in place. (25.08.09)


Heads Up: Climate Change Forum

HeadsUp hosts an online debating space for under 18s to share their views on political issues and events. A forum on the topic of climate change took place from 28 September to 16 October 2009, in advance of the UN summit in Copenhagen in December.
