The workshop will comprise presentations, discussions and activities on aspects of both physical and human geography. Six main themes will be covered during the day reflecting some of the diversity of concerns that our subject encompasses. The sessions are closely linked to the syllabus at GCSE, AS and A2 levels and aim to provide new theoretical perspectives, and case studies to take back to the classroom.
There is no charge to attend but places are limited to 60. You can download a full programme and booking form on the Leeds branch page.

EDINA and Ordnance Survey are conducting some research to establish the requirements for a proposed online mapping service for schools. The service would deliver a variety of Ordnance Survey map products over the web. They are interested in gathering the views of teachers about such a proposed service, and you are invited to complete the following questionnaire.
It is important to gather as many views as possible in order to understand both what teachers might need from an online mapping service, and to understand what priority those needs have.

Encounters at the End of the World is the latest film by acclaimed German director Werner Herzog. It was produced in association with the Discovery Channel, and was nominated for an Oscar in 2009. In this film, he interviews people who work on McMurdo base in Antarctica. The film explores the relationship between people and the environment, the idea of sustainability and the scientific endeavour which is taking place in this remote location - themes which will be very familiar to geographers.
Alan Parkinson, The GA's Secondary Curriculum Development Leader, has put together the following document which contains ideas on how to use this film with secondary students. It also includes links to other Antarctic resources.
