The deadline for entries to the Becta ICT Excellence Awards 2009 is only weeks away. The ICT Excellence Awards seek out the best and brightest schools that are using technology to help learners achieve. There are 4 awards categories for schools, each with cash prizes, plus a 'support for schools' category for organisations who support school improvement with ICT.

Frederick Warne and the National Trust are pleased to announce the launch of The Beatrix Potter™ Green Award 2009. Children aged 5-11 are being asked to communicate their green achievements by writing a story, taking a photograph, drawing a picture, or in any other creative way. There are great prizes for the winners including a fantastic digital camera, a year's family membership to the National Trust and £500 towards a green initiative at their local school.

The GA has teamed up with the BBC to help your KS3 students bring their geographies to the screen:
My World in 60 Seconds is a film project to create an alternative guide to our world, a guide that is created by you. We want to re-present the world as people know it, so we're looking for young people to make short films that are thought provoking, insightful and engaging'.
The BBC has now relaxed the rules regarding format and you are now able to submit your film on MiniDV, High Quality DVD or as a Quicktime Movie. Further information, entry form and posters are available on the My World in 60 Seconds page.

The Fuchs Foundation is planning a second Antarctic expedition on which there are places for four science or geography teachers. They are looking for full time teachers who are prepared to undertake a science project in the harshest of conditions - temperatures down to -40c! Applicants must also be prepared to raise a five figure sum to contribute to the expedition's costs and to write up their science project and produce teaching materials, all of which will be published on the web.
