The JOIN UP! - Send My Friend To School! campaign has been running for three years and aims to get all children into education despite poverty. This year schools are being asked to make cut-out chains to send to the German Leader Chancellor, Angela Merkel. Visit the website for further details, background information and teaching resources.

The Government has announced that a free copy of An Inconvenient Truth will be sent to every secondary school in England. The film will be accompanied by a climate change resource pack produced as part of the Sustainable Schools Year of Action. Read the full press release for further information. Becta's ICT Excellence Awards are now open for entries! The ICT Excellence Awards aim to identify and reward whole school excellence in ICT. They look for schools across the UK approaching ICT in outstanding and innovative ways. Winning schools will receive prize money of up to £6,000, as well as opportunities to share their excellent practice with others. Find out more on the Funding and Awards page.

Oxfam School Speakers are now available across England to give inspiring workshops and assemblies on the struggle against global poverty. Speakers are fully trained to help pupils aged 8 to 18 explore a range of issues that affect their world including poverty, health and education. Sessions are highly suitable for the Geography curriculum at Key Stages 2 and 3, and include materials and ideas to help you follow up session themes with your pupils. Teachers can request a Speaker via Oxfam's website in the Teacher support area.

QCA has developed new geography materials for the Teacher assessment activities series for Key Stages 1 and 2. Designed to reinforce existing classroom practice and assessment methods, the geography materials provide examples of assessment activities to help teachers identify, track and enhance pupil progress in the classroom and during fieldwork. On Monday 5 February QCA launched an online consultation on proposed changes to the National Curriculum at Key Stage 3. The proposed programmes of study aim to give teachers 'a more flexible, less prescriptive framework for teaching, creating more scope to tailor the curriculum to meet the needs of each individual student'.
