The new look Growing Schools website has been designed to support teachers in using the 'outdoor classroom' as a resource across the curriculum for pupils of all ages. There is a new searchable database of places to visit. Teachers will be able to quickly search the database by postcode to gain details about places in their locality that offer real hands-on learning experiences. The website also contains numerous teaching resources, as well as help and advice for schools wanting to make more use of outdoor learning.

Earth from Above is a new series showing on Teachers TV. Photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand takes a breathtaking journey as he views the earth from above and discusses the effects of mankind on nature. This series sees him visit the African Savannah, Antarctica, Tasmania and many more places in a bid to confront and explore the major issues currently at stake for the Earth. The films make a great resource for both primary and secondary geography.

2008 is the 20th anniversary of the historic Adivasi Land Rights March that proved crucial in securing the land of the people of Chembakolli. ActionAid has produced an online resourse in which you can create a character to take part in an online march and find out lots about Adivasi life in the process. Visit 20 Years of Chambakolli to join the march. The GA has produced a map about Chembakolli in collaboration with ActionAid that can be used to support work on Unit 10: A village in India in the QCA Scheme of Work, and can be purchased in our online shop.

Last year we published three poems by GA member Mark Cowan on this website, all available to download from the Secondary page. Following a very positive response, a book of geographical poems has now been published by EPrint Publishing. Poems for the Geography Classroom is a collection of fifty poems which help to bring a diverse range of topics to life, stimulate debate and discussion, and enable students and teachers to be creative in lessons. The poems are complemented by a range of practical ideas and suggestions of how they can be used imaginatively in the classroom.

EPrint Publishing are offering a 15% discount for GA members on the normal price of £9.99, making the total price £8.49. To claim your discount, contact Michelle Hepper on 01254 882080 citing the GA website and your membership number.

The URBAN EARTH project aims to (re)present our urban habitat through a series of walks and show what cities are really like for the people who live there. Starting and ending in fields, the rules of URBAN EARTH are to start and end in green countryside. Made up of thousands of photographs the URBAN EARTH films will present a rare insight into our increasingly urban lives and will be launched in the next few weeks.

The next walk will be in Bristol on Saturday 15 November 2008. There is also a walk planned in Manchester on the final day of the GA Annual Conference 2009. See the Conference page for more details.

To follow the adventure visit the URBAN EARTH website or blog. If you want to collaborate with URBAN EARTH by doing a walk join the Ning.
