Support the GA
There are lots of ways in which you can support the GA - many of them are outlined in these pages. Some of our members take a very active role and participate in events, join committees or contribute to publications. We realise however that not everyone can spare the time to assist in a voluntary capacity, so here are a few other ways in which you can help.
Become a member
One of the most important things you can do to help is join! The GA is a registered charity (313129) and does not receive any core funding from Government. As such we have always been dependent on membership subscriptions to fund our work - without this important income stream there would be no journals, no publications, no Conference, no GA!
We also rely on our membership to maintain our independence, and to provide us with the authority to speak for geography and its role in schools. By becoming a member you are helping to give geography a voice and allowing the GA to have a real influence with key partners and Government on matters that will directly affect you.

Donate
The GA's membership subscription income is returned in the form of services, but additional donations enable us to expand our range of activities and extend our services even further. As a registered charity the GA can reclaim tax on eligible donations and some subscriptions may be eligible for Gift Aid.
Individuals can make online donations to the GA via the Charity Aid Foundation's website, by typing 'Geographical Association' into their charity search facility. The Charity Choice website can also be used for donating to the GA.

Legacies
By making provision for the GA in your will, you would be providing lasting support for your subject community. In recent years bequests have enabled us to develop open-access areas of the website, provide meeting facilities for members at our Sheffield offices and run annual overseas study tours.
Spread the word
The more members we have, the more we can do to support you. Help spread the word about the GA by inviting your friends and colleagues to join. Please contact Nicola Donkin to request copies of our Join the GA leaflet or any other promotional materials.
GA Publications and Events
Every time you purchase a GA resource or book a place on a GA CPD event, you are directly supporting us. We in turn help our members by offering up to 30% off standard publication prices and a substantial discount on courses and conferences.
