Managed by the British Council, this site offers a global partner linking service and provides quick access to comprehensive information on how to develop an international dimension to education.

Dooley, N. (1991) Everybody Cooks Rice Carolrhoda Books.
At dinner time, Carrie goes from house to house looking for her brother. As she visits each house, she is given different dishes to try, and through these dishes she experiences the cultural diversity of her neighbourhood.

Dooley, N. (1996) Everybody Bakes Bread Carolrhoda Books.
Carrie is sent out into the neighbourhood to borrow a three-handled rolling pin. As she goes from house to house, she samples breads from different countries.

Isadora, R. (1991) At the Crossroads Greenwillow.
Children of a South African village eagerly wait at the crossroads for their fathers, who have been away for months working in the mines.

From dawn to twilight in the city of Johannesburg, this book focuses on the transition from day to night, contrasting the activities of humans in Johannesburg with those of the animals in Kruger National Park. Unique in the world, A South African Night features wonderful animals that stir and move in the darkness as the children fall asleep.

Rattigan, J. K. (1998) Dumpling Soup Little Brown and Company.
Every year on New Year’s Eve, the whole family goes to the grandmother’s house for dumpling soup. This story is set in the Hawaiian islands, where eating is an expression of warmth and friendship.

Smith, D. (2004) If the World Were a Village Oxfam Publishing.
A book about the world’s people – the languages and daily lives of those who live in our global village, and the cultural differences between them.

Wong, J. S. (2000) The Trip Back Home Roundhouse Publishing.
Janet Wong invites the reader to join her on her trip back home to Korea, revealing that even when family members speak different languages, there is still much to share.

Wong, J. S. (2002) Apple Pie 4th of July Harcourt Children’s Books.
This simple story explores a child’s fears about cultural differences. A Chinese American girl helps her parents open a small grocery shop serving Chinese food in an American city, just as they celebrate 4 July.
