Maps

Ordnance Survey - downloaded and print map extracts at 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 scales.

Geograph British Isles - a rapidly growing project which aims to collect a geographically representative photograph for every square kilometre of the British Isles.

Multimap - different scale maps of the UK and overseas, including some overlays for aerial photos.

Visits

Field Studies Council - offer day and residential support for fieldwork, and have a number of centres located on the coast.

National Trust and National Trust for Scotland
give information on educational visits to properties including coastal locations.

Institute of Education - has an Earth Science Centre with hands-on simulation models for exploring coastal processes.

Software

Research Machines - RM Easiteach is a software package for whole-class teaching using an interactive whiteboard or large screen and includes tools for teaching the QCA 'investigating coasts' unit.

University College Chester - the School of Education provides background information and more images of Flamborough Head.

Countryside Agency - provides information about Heritage Coasts.

The National Trust Coastline Project - a website with content for children called Surf the Coast

Information about wind farms on and offshore is available from
a number of sites:

BBCi - if children need to search for further information on Heritage Coasts, wind farms or other issues, BBCi has a child-friendly search facility.

Google Preferences - to ensure that safe searching is enabled set Safe Search to ‘Strict Filtering’.

Curriculum Visions - a supporting website for the book Curriculum Visions: The Coast Book (2002) by Brian Knapp.
