It expects pupils to act as geographical detectives, learning through geographical enquiry and problem solving, in small ways and big ways!
In good primary geography:
- children act as detectives, learning through enquiry and problem solving (as in Global detectives)
- topical issues and internet resources interest and motivate pupils (as in the Where in the world am I? activity)
- a range of learning styles is evident: active, auditory, visual (as in Can you find me? and Features here and there)
- children use and manipulate data, rather than just recording it
- information is dealt with creatively, e.g. a cartoon to describe a river and what it does
- children can apply skills, knowledge and concepts to different contexts
- map and atlas games help children learn enjoyably, for example, Worldwise
- teaching is planned with a basic expectation of demand related to the level description for your pupils' age and stage - should pupils be describing simply, or in greater detail? Making comparisons or explaining?
