The project will develop the skills required for leading a subject, including monitoring standards, evaluating teaching and learning, leading sustainable improvement and developing coaching and mentoring skills. Initially, places are limited to five teachers per subject area, and the date of Day One will be Monday 14 January 2008, Days Two & Three will be in February and March. For further information contact Sharon Mackintosh (01227 767700 Ext 3263).

February 2006

  • to see the new Book Reviews section

We've also got a couple of recommendations for you this month:

  • 'Belonging' by Jeannie Baker

    ISBN 0744592275
    Walker Books, 2004

This gem of a book about sustainibility may be new to you. It's a follow-on from the author's earlier book Window which tells through photo-like collage the story of urban change and development seen through a window over time. Belonging looks through the same window from the point of view of a growing family. It shows how urban dwellers can reclaim their area and develop a sustainable relationship with it - belonging to it, not just living in it.

    HMS Endurance Tracking Project
    www.visitandlearn.co.uk

Maybe this website doesn't sound like it's about geography, but it is!
Pay a visit to the HMS Endurance Tracking Project site and follow the
Navy ship's voyage to the Antarctic. It's great for locational work and for increasing interest in the countries the ship visits en route, their weather, their environment etc. Your pupils can even email the ship and receive a response! It's a site to which you could return over time to do some intermittent yet ongoing geography.

    November 2005

The Inspire Me page has been updated this month:

    • Read about the success of geography at William Shrewsbury School, and use some of their ideas in the development of the subject at your school.
    • Treat your class to some festive fun with a short geographical activity based on The 12 Days of Christmas.
If you would like to share your inspirational ideas with other teachers, get in touch!
