As well as producing a wide range of vegetables for city markets, peri-urban farmers also produce large quantities of fish. These are mostly carp and can be sold for good prices in the markets.
In this example the urban market is 80km away and produce is sent in daily by train. This farmer is also one of several members of a village which encourages urban dwellers to visit and purchase vegetables and fish; a form of 'pick your own' which is becoming increasingly popular.
