National Sustainable Schools Conference 2009

The National Sustainable Schools Conference is this year brought to you by Sustainability and Environmental Education (SEEd) DCSF, WWF-UK and DEA. This year, to reduce travel and allow more teachers to attend, the National Sustainable Schools Conference will be hosted in the following four locations around the country:
Leeds: 3 July 2009
Preston: 6 July 2009
London: 8 July 2009
Bristol: 14 July 2009
The National Sustainable Schools Conference will help you plan your journey to becoming a sustainable school. There will be participatory workshops for you to identify tasks, resources and approaches. There will be a market place with many of the local and national organisations who offer support and resources to schools with demonstrations of their work. You will get to meet schools from your region who have begun their sustainable schools work.

Geography Alive! Conference

This annual event has become a major regional conference for geography teachers and university geographers. The keynote is by David Lambert and seminars throughout the day will include 'updating subject knowledge', led by university geographers, 'KS3: Assessing Pupil Progress (APP)', 'KS3 curriculum innovations', 'GCSE and A level updates'. Cost: £40:00 per delegate including lunch and delegate pack. Free to current PGCE trainee teachers and those starting their PGCE in 2009-2010. From Shrewsbury to the World: A Debt to Darwin

Michael Palin (Old Salopian) returns to his old school to address the Shropshire Branch of the GA on his travels paying homage to Charles Darwin along the way. Tickets are now available and are priced £10 for non-members, £7.50 for GA Branch and Association members. Extreme Environments - Taking Students to the End of the Earth

An inspirational day for geography teachers devoted to the Antarctic and Arctic, run in collaboration with the Prince's Teaching Institute and the Fuchs Foundation. The day will be of particular interest to those teaching all aspects of geography at KS3, KS4 and KS5 and also those wishing to develop case studies related to Extreme Environments. As well as updating their understanding and knowledge of this fascinating and complex area of geography, delegates will leave the day with fresh ideas on how to engage students and take them to 'the ends of the earth'.

Annual Oxford Geography Conference for all Schools run by the ISWG and the Oxford Branch of the GA
Tuesday 23 February 2010, starts 10:00am
St Edward's School, Oxford.
The Conference will be titled 'A Different View- Geography teaching and learning for the future'. This Conference is open to all those teaching 11 to 18 year olds and will focus on GIS, Fieldwork and Geographical Learning. There will be workshops by Alan Parkinson (on Everyday Geographies), Jamie Buchanan-Dunlop (on Google Earth) and Diana Freeman (on Aegis) as well as other workshops on future fieldwork. The opening lecture will be given by Nigel Winser, Executive Vice President and Head of Programmes, Earthwatch. There will also be a publishers exhibition and a good lunch.
