'... A showcase of geographical filmmaking, Our World Film Festival is a visual adventure into our changing planet to promote our understanding of the geographies that we live ...'

Public Lecture
University of Surrey, 17:00-17:45

Vanessa Lawrence, Director General and CEO of the Ordnance Survey, will present the Public Lecture on 'Geography in disguise: does it underpin your daily life?'

The use of geography is prevalent in our society today. It may be in the form of a paper map but more often geography is underpinning an important service we are using. It maybe hidden from us but it helps us or others to make important daily decisions.
Vannessa Lawrence

Whether you are ordering goods online, driving with the aid of an in-car navigation system, receiving emergency care or just catching a bus, geographical information is helping you in your daily life. From your refuse being collected, to electricity, gas and water being available at home the use of geography is ubiquitous in our day to day lives. In the e-world many decisions are being made using geography; it is relied on by Government, business and you.
