The awards are sent to schools in September each year and are also presented to attending teachers at the GA Annual Conference Awards ceremony in April each year.

SGQM in the news

The SGQM Award is not only a great tool to develop and improve geography in your school it is also an excellent way to celebrate what is being achieved by teachers and pupils alike. The SGQM can also be an ideal opportunity to raise the profile of your department inside and outside of school.

 In 2015, 53 schools went through the Secondary Geography Quality Mark process. this year ten schools so far have achieved the coveted Centre of Excellence status. Over 371 schools have been awarded the SGQM since it began in 2006, and with a total of 46 current Centres of Excellence there is an increasingly widespread support network for teachers. Furthermore, this year awards have also been granted to three overseas schools in Germany, China and Vietnam. Also, Barking Abbey Sports and Humanities College has achieved the award for a third consecutive time which GA feels is a significant achievement!
