Now let's fly to India ...
What's it like to go to school here?
Journeys made by children going to school in India can be very different from ours and from each other's! In this session, children will use internet images to collect sense impressions on a new copy of the senses sheet this time putting themselves in the picture.
Sharing good quality, positive and exciting images of children in other places with our pupils, and encouraging them to put themselves in the picture, will develop empathy, involvement, a rich sense of place, good talk and good writing; all these add up to excellent learning.
The creative act of taking new learning and shaping it into something new, in this case researching the experiences of children in India and creating a group performance piece, and individual poems, embeds learning, and gives young writers the buzz adult writers feel, when after they have gathered and shaped, a satisfying piece of writing starts to emerge and can eventually be shared with an audience and/or published.
Our children will have been writers on virtual location!

Note that this session could take place over one lesson, a full morning, or longer. The more time you have to encourage and involve children, the better the writing, geography and visual literacy that will result.
The following two slideshows contain photos and links to further resources that will be very useful for you in teaching this session.
