Course overview

This course is designed to help you create high-quality fieldwork and mapping activities. In addition to sharing a range of practical ideas, we will also explore curriculum thinking to enable you to adapt these experiences to your own setting.

The day will include a mix of presentations, group work and practical activities. Come prepared to spend some time outdoors... whatever the weather!

Aims and outcomes

The course will explore:

  • The role and purpose of fieldwork in the primary curriculum
  • What makes for distinctively geographical fieldwork
  • How fieldwork can be a stimulus for creative curriculum connections
  • The development of mapping skills (graphicacy) as a communication tool
  • Progression in mapping skills within the primary phase
  • The inclusion of map work within the creative (connected) curriculum
