Course overview

This course will explore the most recent guidance on Ofsted inspections and demonstrate how geography departments can use the GA’s Quality Mark process to enable them to be better prepared for future inspections. Delegates will be challenged to evaluate their own work and will share good practice regarding literacy, numeracy and spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development. They will consider the issues faced in demonstrating the progress made by their students and discuss potential solutions.

Aims and outcomes

  • Develop understanding of the most recent guidance for inspections from Ofsted
  • Explore how the Quality Mark process can support departments in preparing for inspection

  • Discuss how students’ progress can be demonstrated.

09.30-11.00: Introduction - What do Ofsted say they are looking for?
How is this linked to the Quality Mark SEF?
What are we already doing well and what 'tweaks' can we make to do even better?

11.00-11.15: Refreshment break

11.15-12.45: Focus on literacy, numeracy and SMSC development

12.45-13.30: Lunch

13.30-15.30: Focus on demonstrating progress made by students

15.30: Close
