This interactive course explores and exemplifies opportunities within the primary geography curriculum for promoting pupils' global awareness and understanding. It examines the challenges posed by global learning, then looks in-depth at some practical thematic and place-based examples, linked to NC2014, which will lead to outstanding geography teaching.
Registration fees include all course materials, refreshments and lunch.

Aims and outcomes
- Increase confidence in using the geography curriculum as a vehicle for exploring big global issues
- Look in-depth at planning and resourcing for the theme of global trade and a regional study of the Americas
- Develop a greater understanding of geography's global learning challenges
- Take away a range of ideas that can support your, and your colleagues', teaching
09.00-09.30: Coffee and registration
09.30-11.00: Session 1: Exploring geography and global learning
This session will explore some of the opportunities and dilemmas posed by useing livel global issues as a rich field for geographical learning
11.00-11.15: Refreshment break
11.15-12.45: Session 2: Thematic teaching: global trade
Looking at some common brands and consumer items, this session tracks their global journeys and looks into some key issues and processes
13.30-15.30: Session 3: Place based learning: South and Central America
Taking a region within the Americas as its focus, we look as some of the present-day issues facing this part of the world, and some of their implications for pupils' lives
