GA Annual Award for Excellence

Helen Martin

This award is presented to a person who has made a significant contribution to the GA's work over the last 12 months. This year's award goes to Helen Martin for her inspiring, determined work as one of our recognised professional primary teachers. As well as being a busy headteacher, she has worked as a moderator for the Action Plan for Geography’s Primary Geography Quality Mark, is an active member of the GA’s Primary Committee and is one of the GA's Trustees. With her enthusiasm and keen perception she has helped influence the content of both the Innovating with Geography website and the forthcoming Primary Curriculum Review, with her suggested innovations being viewed by Sir Jim Rose. The Association and the geography community as a whole owes her a considerable debt of gratitude. Very many thanks and congratulations Helen.

The Frederick Soddy Awards

Frederick Soddy Trust
GA Frederick Soddy Awards Page

The Frederick Soddy Trust wishes to encourage students' interest in field study by providing financial support. Schools often find it difficult to compete successfully for funds from the main grant-making bodies or to allocate their own financial resources to field studies. The Trust hopes to encourage field studies by providing support specifically for such work.

This year four schools won Frederick Soddy Awards:

  • Parsloes Primary School, Dagenham
  • Fountains High School, Burton-on-Trent
  • St Andrew's CE(C) Primary School, Stafford
  • Braunton School and Stoke Damerel Community College, Plymouth
