University of Manchester

The University of Manchester is located in the heart of the city, with the Sackville Street Campus just a five minute walk from both Piccadilly and Oxford Road train stations.

The GA Annual Conference Welcome and Information desk, lecture and workshop rooms and exhibition are all accessed via the main entrance to the Renold Building.

Getting to the University of Manchester

Train

The University of Manchester is located close to both Piccadilly and Oxford Road railway stations, with Victoria station a little further away. Details of timetables, tickets and other rail information is available from the National Rail website or by calling 08457 484 950.

Coach

Chorlton Street Coach Station (08705 808 080) is a short walk from the Sackville Street campus. Turn right out of Chorlton Street Coach Station onto Chorlton Street and walk to the junction with Whitworth Street. Cross Whitworth Street and the Sackville Street campus is straight ahead.

Bus and tram

Services to the Sackville Street area of the campus include:

  • Tram (Metrolink) - various lines to Piccadilly station, which is a short walk away
  • Buses along London Road: 107, 192, 196, 201, 203, 204, 205, 206, 373
  • Bus along Sackville Street: 140

Air

Manchester Airport is located approximately 10 miles (16km) south of the city centre, about 30 minutes from the University. The airport has a number of transport links to the city:

  • Train - The airport's two terminals are linked directly to the city centre by a fast, frequent 24-hour train link to both Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations
  • Taxi - A taxi from the airport to the University will cost approximately £15
  • Bus - Local buses also run to the Sackville Street areas of the campus

Car

All approach routes are clearly signposted 'The University of Manchester'. Directions can be found on The University of Manchester website.

We would urge you to use public transport wherever possible but should you decide to use your own vehicle there is pay and display parking available nearby on Charles Street. Parking rates as of 2011: up to 10 hours £8; 24 hours £10; after 4pm and weekends £2.
