Information for Overseas Delegates
The Geographical Association welcomes delegates from outside the UK. Please note full payment prior to Conference must be made by all overseas participants. This can made online using a credit/debit card or by sending an international bankers draft in Pounds Sterling. We regret that we are unable to issue an Invitation Letter to participants outside the UK.
This year's chosen charity
Every year the GA gives a portion of the Annual Conference and Exhibition delegate fees to a charitable organisation chosen by the current GA President. This year we will contribute £1 per paying delegate to Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange.
Inter-Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE UK) is an international volunteering charity which organises overseas placements across Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe in partnership with local communities. Their voluntary projects include youth development and teaching, HIV/AIDS awareness and health promotion, sports coaching and arts, human rights and environmental conservation.
This year all hotel bookings will be handled by the University of Manchester's ConferCare service on behalf of the GA. Prices are available for single and double/twin occupancy on a bed and breakfast basis. All hotels are within a 20-minute walk of the University and rates start from £58. Reservations can be made by credit/debit card on the ConferCare website.
You can also find your own accommodation on the Visit Manchester website
In addition to the main conference programme, a number of social events will take place on the Thursday and Friday evenings which need to be booked in advance. This year's events include the annual Conference Dinner, a Manchester Pub Walk and a Buffet and Barn Dance. Further information is available on the Events page.
Pre-booking is also required for the free public lecture and awards presentations taking place on the afternoon of Thursday 12 April.
Places at all of these events can be reserved on the conference booking form.
The Conference Dinner will be held at the University of Surrey on 14 April following on from the Public Lecture, Awards Presentations and wine reception. The price of £35 includes a three course meal and coffee, two bottles of wine plus juice and water on each table.
