Here's a selection of pages from the GA website which might be useful to you during and after your training:

GTIP
This part of the GA website is designed to support geography PGCE tutors. It provides a wealth of ideas, resources, reading lists and weblinks. Some parts of GTIP, particularly the Think Pieces and the Library, may be of interest to a wider audience including trainee teachers.

Pilot GCSE
Support pages for those involved in the OCR pilot GCSE including information on the specification, teaching resources and a termly newsletter.

Building Sustainable Communities
A GA project which focuses on the idea of 'My place' and sustinability. It aims to inform teachers about new initiatives and includes an online CPD unit.

Valuing Places
Another place based project which furthers the understanding of the art of teaching through curriculum development.

Young Geographers
A current project for primary teachers which includes aspects of ESD and focuses on local area fieldwork.

Worldwise
The popular GA quiz for secondary schools now has a web presence - students can answer online quizzes and print out certificates afterwards!

Geography Awareness Week
Ideas based around a theme which students of any age can become involved in during a specific week each year.

Up to date listings of courses and conferences relevant to geography teachers.

DfES Standards Site - this government website includes a range of resources such as lesson plans, classroom materials and practical advice. Detailed breakdowns of the KS1 / KS2 and KS3 geography curricula with suggested units of work are available in the Schemes of Work section. The website also contains video clips of teaching.

Geography at the Movies - video resources for geography lessons.

'Geography Matters' by David Rayner - an inspirational video about the importance of geography.

Geography Teaching Today - the official website for the Action Plan for Geography, jointly led by the GA and RGS-IBG. The website containins online CPD units, KS3 resources, curriculum-making materials and information about the Ambassador and Chartered Geographer schemes.

Juicy Geography - resources created by teachers for teachers.

NQT Geographers - the GA's lively new social network for PGCE students and early career teachers. The site is designed to help you share advice and ideas and provide a network of support as you settle into the classroom. This facility is available to GA and joint GA/RGS-IBG members, another great reason to join! To gain access to the social network (otherwise known as a 'Ning'), email Alan Parkinson with your membership number. You might also like to download the Ning User Guide (PDF, 613k) to help you get started.

Staffordshire Learning Net - this website contains a wealth of resources and a very popular forum for geography teachers.

Teachers TV - Geography - there are currently 75 geography programmes on Teachers TV, and new ones are added regularly. See the Hard to Teach video for a good example.

Organisations

Field Studies Council - The FSC focuses on learning outside the classroom. Many Geographers use their centres for fieldwork.

RGS-IBG - The Royal Geographical Society with the Institute of British Geographers is a professional body for the support and advancement of Geography. Visit the Geography Today page for information about news and developments in geography.
