Furthering the learning and teaching of geography

Supporting Geography Networks Group

We have recently reviewed the Geography Advisors & Inspectors Network Working Group (GAIN) which was formed to represent the views and needs of local education authorities (LEA), consultant advisors and inspectors of geography.

In recent years GAIN has gradually become less active and it was decided at the last Working Group Meeting at the GA Conference in April 2008 to collectively refresh the database we currently hold and combine remaining GAIN supporters to create a wider GA Consultants database.

The aim in doing this is to widen the number of active geographers and also produce an up to date list of contacts that the GA can continue to communicate with. A new database will also assist participants and the GA to begin focusing on developing and supporting Geography Networks, an Action Plan for Geography 2 (APG 2) target.

The new database has now been compiled and, from the contacts, a new group called the 'Supporting Geography Networks Group' has been formed. The SGNG will be proactive in getting together to create and share ideas of how geography related teacher networks can be supported.

The group have their own section on the GA Network where ideas, initiatives and support strategies can be planned, shared and disseminated.

If you are interested in becoming involved with the new 'Supporting Geography Networks Group' please contact Julie Beattie.
