Programme

FSC Sixth Form Conference
Wednesday 16 March 2011
Queens College, Taunton

  • 2:00-3:00pm Dr Richard Yarwood (Plymouth University) 'It's the end of the world as we know it - population change and resources'
  • 3:00-4:00pm Dr Nick Middleton (Oxford University) 'Deserts - an introduction'
  • 4:00pm Tea
  • 4:15-5:00pm Dr Peter Stiff (OCR Principal Examiner) 'Preparing to succeed at AS and A2'

This is a unique opportunity to study key aspects of physical and human geography at AS/A level in preparation for the forthcoming exams. Dr Richard Yarwood will examine some of the issues associated with population growth and the use of resources. Using a multi-sensory presentation, he will consider the challenges and opportunities in a world that now has over 7 billion inhabitants.

Dr Nick Middleton is known to many of us as one of the 'faces' of Geography on television, having presented a number of programmes, perhaps most notably looking at the world's extreme environments. He will consider some of the issues associated with arid environments including climate, geomorphology and human uses/abuses of desert regions and their margins.

Dr Peter Stiff is a highly experienced teacher and Principal Examiner for OCR. He will run an interactive session aimed to help students with some of the technical issues associated with achieving success at AS/A2 level.
