Branch Trip to India
"Members of the Lincoln Branch recently visited Kerala in South India. We were led by Brian Harrison who runs a charity called Lincs with India which sponsors projects for disadvantaged people, especially tribal groups, in the Western Ghats. During our trip we visited four different groups. Some of them lived in remote areas and the party sometimes had to walk along forest paths and travel by boat.
We also saw a range of farming activities and rural industries including spinning coconut fibre into rope and we visted some rural schools.
We visited a hostel for boys whose parents are unable to support them. The hostel provides accommodation, food and medical attention. The boys attend the local school in their uniforms of green shorts and yellow shirts.
Many of the boys are sponsored by people in the UK. Lincs with India helps to support the hostel and has recently improved the water supply by funding a new bore-hole and tank.
A total contrast was provided by a visit to the hill station of Kodicanal and the temple city of Madurai."
