Amy Donavan: From magma to ashes: Managing volcanic eruption
Amy is a PhD student at Cambridge University. Having complete an English degree at Emmanuel College (first class) in 2001, Amy then went on to complete an MPhil in Medieval Literature (Cambridge), two Open University courses in Mathematical Modeling and a Geosciences and a MSc in Geophysical hazards (UCL), before settling on her PhD topic of Volcanology back in Cambridge. Amy's Ph.D. research concerns the nature and use of volcanological expertise in advising policy makers on active volcanoes. Having lectured very successfully at the Cambridge branch of the GA she now comes to Berkhamsted to give her insight and understanding of the global impact of the 2010 Icelandic eruption.

Katherine Sladden: Living Proof
Katherine studied Geography at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. Katherine is now UK Media Manager at ONE, a global campaigning organisation co-founded by Bono and backed by more than 2.5 million people dedicated to fighting extreme poverty. Living Proof will showcase the real progress being made in the fight against extreme poverty; using a series of recent examples from vaccines to agriculture to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about development assistance.

Iris Moeller: Coastal Challenges in the 21st Century
Iris is college lecture in Physical Geography at Fitzwilliam College Cambridge. She also the Deputy Director of the Cambridge Coastal Research Unit. Her reseach focus is on coastal geomorphology specialising in bio-physical interactions in the intertidal one, the monitoring / prediction of long term coastal morphodynamics, and the response of coastal systems to climate change.
Further Information
In order to cover our costs of paying expenses for speakers we are making a charge of £6.00 which will entitle ticket holders to attend any, or all, of the lectures. For under-16s there is a fee of £3.00.
A special family ticket is also available priced £10.00 which entitles three or more members of the same family to attend all lectures.
There have been occasions when lectures have been cancelled through circumstances beyond our control. Email Julia Hughes to ensure that you are notified of any changes to the programme.
