Benefits of Membership

JOIN NOW

The Geographical Association promotes geography as a vital element of personal education. Membership of the GA makes you part of a professional community, which recognises the value of geographical skills, knowledge and understanding to everyone. With almost 10,000 members, the GA is one of the largest teaching associations in the UK. It supports, and is strengthened by, teachers of geography in all phases of education.

Members receive this support through a range of benefits including journals to support their teaching, a quarterly newsletter keeping them informed, access to wider material via the website, substantial discounts on GA resources and conferences, and professional development and representation through projects, committees and working groups.

If you have any questions about GA membership, please contact Frances Soar.

GA membership brings you Continuous Professional Development through:

Teaching resources

We are a major publisher of books, teaching packs, posters and other resources written and compiled by subject experts. Members will receive phase specific catalogues each year and discounts on all resources.

Journals

Members can choose to subscribe to any of our three journals Primary Geographer, Teaching Geography and Geography - designed to support teachers and researchers in primary, secondary and post-16 education respectively. In addition to receiving journals in the post, members can access them online in a password protected area of this website.

Details of our journals can be accessed via the navigation bar on the left.

Websites

We’ve enhanced our websites to help you teach and learn about geography and geographical education and to keep you informed of all geography related activities. Our GeographyShop has details of all GA resources to browse and purchase online.

The GA also works with other organisations to enhance online provision for geographers. More information on these projects can be found in the resources section.

Projects and groups

Valuable professional development experience can be gained through projects such as Worldwise and Valuing Places or through involvement with any of our lively and influential working groups and parties, steering and advisory groups and committees.

Your membership and active contribution strengthens our voice in our consultations with central government.

Conferences

Members benefit from high quality professional development at a reduced rate at our Annual Conference and other events throughout the year.

GA News

Our newsletter is being expanded to bring you more news, views from members and details of events, training opportunities and new GA projects. Members can also access GA News online.
