State of the Nation 2005

State of the Nation
State of the Nation book cover

The maps you can download via this page relate to activities outlined in the State of the Nation 2005 - Teacher's notes which utilise data from the Report and CD-Rom of the same name (see online shop) produced by the Local Studies Group.

A labelled map showing all UK Local Authority Districts, County and Unitary authorities (similar to Figure 8 in the State of the Nation - Teacher's notes) can be downloaded from the UK Statistics website.

If printed out in full colour, this map is useful both for display purpose and as reference material for students when utilising the data on the State of the Nation 2005 CD-Rom that accompanies the State of the Nation resources.

Different formats (raster and vector, tif, gif, eps and pdf) of outline base maps, showing:

  • local authority districts, counties and unitary authority boundaries (as on the UK statistics map above - Figures 3 and 8 in the State of the Nation 2005 - Teacher's notes)
  • County boundary maps from 1995
  • Coastline only

can be downloaded from the Ordnance Survey website and edited by students or teachers. Copyright remains with the Ordnance Survey.

High resolution pdfs of Figure 4 and Figure 5 from the State of the Nation - Teacher's notes can be downloaded by clicking on the images below.
